– Most Reverend Charles Palmer Buckle argues that it remains ungodly for Christians to trample upon their rights

The Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Most Reverend Charles Palmer Buckle has argued that in as much as gay marriage remain a practice strictly opposed by the Catholic Church, there was still the need for society to respect the rights and freedoms of the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community.

Making his thoughts known on StarrFM in Accra, the outspoken bishop argued that the human rights of all gays must not be abused even when it comes to religious faith and doctrine.

“We [Catholic Church] are clear on that, homosexuals, LGBT’s and the rest are children of God and they must be respected. They have a human dignity that nobody must be allowed to trample on that,” Archbishop Palmer Buckle argued.
The comments by the Bishop follows a clear message by Catholic Bishops in the African diocese who have maintained their resolve not to bow to calls for the legalization of same-sex marriage in Africa. Making their intentions known at a press conference ahead of their 2nd plenary assembly, President of the Regional Episcopal conference of West Africa, Cardinal Theodore Sarr insisted that all African states must be on the lookout for any form(s) of Western cohesion over homosexuality.
Homosexuality remains an act punishable by law across several African states with Ghana not being an exception.
